What is WonderWol?

WonderWol is a beautiful natural product made from 100% pure sheep wool, unbleached and without chemical additives. This anti-pressure wool was specially developed for hikers and outdoor sports enthusiasts who suffer from blisters, pressure points, or other foot discomfort. By using tufts of wool as natural ventilation between the toes, pressure on your feet and skin is relieved. The lanolin (wool fat) also cares for your feet and keeps them nice and soft. Ideal for anyone who is on their feet for long periods.

The secret of our WonderWol?

Lanolin is the fat found in sheep's wool. This natural substance has some great properties. Lanolin is not only good for the sheep's coat but is also extremely suitable for caring for human skin. Lanolin has an intensive moisturizing effect and easily penetrates the outer layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. By properly caring for this top layer, the skin is protected against dryness and harmful external influences.

Of course, WonderWol is also super soft and therefore wonderful to walk on or wear against the skin. We achieve this softness ourselves byspecial combingthe wool. This activates the lanolin even more and smooths out every bump, knot, and hair tangle from the wool. This also makes WonderWoldifferent from regularFilling wool.

Using WonderWol for Pain Relief

Even if the damage is already done and you are now walking around withpainful blistersor damaged skin, WonderWol is also the solution! The softness of WonderWol ensures maximum walking comfort and thelanolinis used to help the damaged skin recover as quickly as possible. WonderWol is therefore also excellent for cracked nipples and diaper rash. For cracked nipples, place a small piece of wool between the nipple and the bra. For diaper rash, place a tuft of wool between the sore buttocks and the diaper. The wool ensures that air can reach the damaged skin, and the naturally present lanolin has a softening effect.

How do I recognize good wool for walking?

Good wool for walking is distinguished by thesoftnessof the wool and the percentage oflanolin(= wool fat) still present in the wool. Little or no wool fat will make the wool dry and prickly. You can imagine that this is not pleasant to walk on. When purchasing walking wool, pay close attention to the 'greasiness' of the wool. Good quality wool, i.e., with a high lanolin content, can also be easily recognized by its smell. Sheep wool should smell like... well, sheep!

There are many suppliers of similar wool, selling it under the name: walking wool, healing wool, anti-pressure wool. Unfortunately, from our spot checks, we have seen that some suppliers sell very dry (prickly) wool (with very low or even no lanolin). How to use WonderWol?

1. Remove your sock and shoe as soon as you experience chafing or any other discomfort.

2. Apply a tuft of WonderWol to the areas where you feel pressure or friction, such as the heel or the ball of your foot.

3. You determine the amount of wool yourself. Too much wool can cause hindrance, too little wool offers no pressure relief.

4. Ensure that the wool covers your foot well and the layer is not too thin. You should not be able to see your skin through the wool.

5. Put your sock and shoe back on; the wool stays in place by adhering to the sock.

6. Ready to continue walking pain-free!

How often can you use WonderWol?

Use WonderWol as long as you need it. This can be during walking or sports, but also perfectly every day for wonderful walking comfort. During a long-distance hike, you will likely need to replace the WonderWol two to three times a day. You don't have to use a new tuft of WonderWol each time; you can reuse the wool until its quality and comfort decrease and it eventually loses its shape. Always take a new tuft of WonderWol when the old wool loses its shape, is flattened, or is dirty, or if you have fungal infections.

Origin of our wool - Wol Fabryk Fryslân

Wol Fabryk Fryslânis a unique and local initiative that focuses entirely on the sustainable and circular processing of Frisian sheep wool. In close cooperation with local sheep farmers, the wool is collected directly from the source. Where sheep wool was often seen as a waste product and had little value, at Wol Fabryk Fryslân it gets a second life in the form of high-quality filling material for various products.

After delivery, the wool is carefully sorted by quality and usability. Suitable wool proceeds to the in-house wool washing facility, where it is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at no less than 172 degrees using a specialized and environmentally friendly washing process. This makes our WonderWol 100% hygienically clean and free of bacteria. Because wool is a 100% natural product, the wool filling may still contain visible imperfections after the washing process. This does not detract from the quality and hygiene of the wool.

Wool that is not suitable for processing into, among other things, pillows or duvets also gets a sustainable destination. This wool is processed intowool hydro granules, an innovative product that can be used in horticulture and agriculture. Thanks to the natural properties of wool, retaining moisture and slowly releasing nutrients, it is an ideal circular fertilizer and soil improver. Wool thus forms a local, sustainable, and completely natural alternative to artificial fertilizer.

In addition to the production of new wool products, the recycling of existing wool duvets and pillows also plays an important role. In collaboration with processors and technological partners, work is being done on a closed loop, in which wool can be reused time and again. This way, nothing is lost and the value of this beautiful natural product is preserved for the region.
