Recommended Retail Price vs Selling Price
Store Retail Price versus Online Selling Price
Our store retail price, also known as the recommended retail price (RRP), manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), or official retail price, is the price that the manufacturer or supplier recommends to the seller for a product or service. It is not a legal obligation for the seller to use this recommended price. The seller is free to lower or raise the price, which results in the selling price.
The MSRP is often used as a reference price by consumers to compare prices. Manufacturers sometimes also use the MSRP to highlight discounts.
Advantages of an MSRP:
- For consumers: Provides a reference price to compare prices.
- For manufacturers: Helps to maintain brand value and manage price competition.
Disadvantages of an MSRP:
- Can be misleading: The MSRP is not always the actual selling price.
- Can lead to unfair competition.
- Manufacturers can keep the MSRP artificially high to make discounts appear larger.
Tips for consumers:
- Take the MSRP into account, but do not use it as the sole factor when making a purchasing decision.
- Compare prices from different sellers before you buy.
- Be critical of discounts: They are not always as big as they seem.
Some useful resources to compare prices:
- Price comparison sites: such as https://www.beslist.nl/
- Review platforms: Trustpilot and Google
- Dutch Consumers' Association: https://www.consumentenbond.nl/adviesprijs
- ACM (Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets): https://www.acm.nl/adviesprijs
- Retailer websites: Many retailers display the MSRP and the selling price on their websites.
Offers - With us, you never pay too much!
Because we are primarily focused on online sales, we are naturally forced to keep our prices as low as possible. We closely follow the prices in the market. This is, of course, to your advantage. With us, you never pay too much!
Online (in our webshop) offers, such as a free pillowcase when buying a pillow or an extra discount when purchasing 2 or more items, do not apply when you come to try out this same item in our physical store/showroom and receive personal advice. Personal attention and advice naturally cost us much more time. This is exactly why the prices for all items in our physical store are higher than our online prices.
Since our online pricing is already so low (which means very little margin remains for us), we unfortunately cannot combine such online promotions and offers with personal advice in our physical store. We hope for your understanding in this matter.
Combination Discounts
For the sake of completeness, please note: if you purchased a discounted product in combination with the purchase of another product, and the product to which the offer applies is returned, the promotional price will lapse and you will naturally pay the standard selling price for the kept item.
