Fitted sheet 80 x 200 cm
A fitted sheet 80x200 cm serves multiple purposes. On the one hand, it's an extra layer of protection and protects your mattress, although we always recommend using a molton mattress protector in addition to using a fitted sheet 80x200 cm. Both of these fitted sheets protect the mattress against dirt and perspiration, thereby significantly extending the lifespan of each fitted sheet 80x200 cm.
But a fitted sheet 80x200 also gives your bedroom extra atmosphere. This can be through the choice of colour. Often this matches the duvet cover, or conversely a contrasting colour to create contrast. It can be great fun to experiment with this. From black to white and from timeless grey to trendy ochre yellow.
Topper Fitted Sheet 80x200
Even when using a topper, also known as a top mattress, there are suitable and well-fitting 80x200 cm fitted sheets available. A topper fitted sheet 80x200 has a lower corner height than a fitted sheet for a regular 80x200 cm mattress.
The standard size for a mattress and therefore also for a topper fitted sheet for a single bed in the Netherlands is 90x200 cm. However, sometimes this is too wide, for example, if it doesn’t fit well in a small bedroom. In that case, choosing a bed and topper fitted sheet of 80x200 is a logical step. When sleeping on two separate 80x200 cm mattresses, this equals 160x200 cm, which is a standard size for a double bed in the Netherlands.
A topper or topper fitted sheet 80x200 cm is often used to improve sleeping comfort. However, we always recommend achieving comfort from the mattress itself, and possibly enhancing it with a wool or bamboo underblanket.
Jersey Fitted Sheets 80 x 200
Jersey cotton or a double Jersey fitted sheet is the ideal fabric for use on memory foam mattresses, pocket spring mattresses, or adjustable beds. It’s highly stretchable, offering a perfect fit. Most (electric) beds now come with mattresses in standard sizes, which makes finding the right size fitted sheets very easy. Jersey fitted sheets stay in place better than standard cotton sheets, which are less elastic. As a result, those traditional sheets tend to lose their shape and stretch over time. The sides are more likely to come loose instead of staying snug around the mattress. You’ll also be more likely to sleep on creases and folds during the night.
What’s more, a soft fabric is simply more comfortable to sleep on or under. 100% pure knitted cotton helps regulate temperature, as Jersey cotton is natural and fully breathable.

Terry Cloth Mattress Cover
This fabric is woven with looped yarn in the pile. There are also terry cloth manufacturing methods where the loop is formed during the weaving process. This more complex production process reflects in the price, as this type of terry fitted sheet is more expensive. Both types are used not only for fitted sheets but also commonly for towels, bathrobes, and applications that require high absorbency. While they are primarily made of cotton, they can also be blended with polyamide or other microfibres, which can especially affect drying time. At Weids Living & Sleeping, we always prefer 100% pure cotton nothing feels as good as 100% natural fabric!
Caring for Terry Cloth Fitted Sheets
Here’s a useful tip for those dealing with hard water: over time, terry cloth can bind with limescale, making the fabric stiff and scratchy. To restore its softness, soak the sheet for a few hours (or overnight) in a mixture of three parts warm water and one part natural vinegar. After soaking, wash it as usual, this will help the limescale dissolve, and your sheet will feel much softer.
Flannel or Molton Fitted Sheet 80x200 – Highly Insulating and Soft
Brushed cotton, also known as flannel cotton, is the result of a refining process that raises the surface fibres of the cotton fabric. This fabric undergoes a mechanical brushing treatment where fine metal brushes gently lift the fibres from the woven yarn, creating a soft, fluffy texture on the surface. Cotton can be brushed on one or both sides to enhance softness, making it perfect for fitted sheets during colder months.
Flannel cotton is also often used as a molton fitted sheet, it is a thicker layer that serves as an under-sheet to protect the mattress. When used underneath a flannel fitted sheet, the molton provides added warmth and protection, making it an ideal choice for winter bedding.
Fitted Sheet 80 x 200 – White, Black, Blue, Beige or Grey
In addition to the wide range of materials available, fitted sheets in size 80 x 200 cm also come in a variety of colours including white, black, beige, green, red, and blue. Among these, white and black (or anthracite) are the most popular choices.
White fitted sheets are a favourite in many households because they evoke a sense of freshness and cleanliness. They look beautifully crisp in any bedroom and make your bed feel instantly inviting.
Black fitted sheets are equally popular, as they are less likely to show colour variations or minor stains. This makes them not only stylish but also practical and just as welcoming.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is an 80x200 fitted sheet for a single bed?
Yes, a fitted sheet measuring 80x200 cm is suitable for a single mattress. Many beds consist of two separate single mattresses often in the size 80x200 cm placed side by side. This also applies to fitted sheets for toppers or split toppers, which typically have a lower corner height to match the height of a topper mattress.
What bed size fits an 80x200 fitted sheet?
If your single bed measures 80x200 cm, you’ll need a mattress and fitted sheet in the same size for a snug fit. However, if you sleep on a 160x200 cm bed made up of two separate mattresses, each measuring 80x200 cm, you can still use two fitted sheets of 80x200 cm each.
