Why a good slatted base is essential

The function of a slatted base is twofold: support and ventilation. The slats flex with your body weight, helping your spine stay in a natural position. The open structure of the slats also allows moisture in the mattress to evaporate easily. This significantly extends the life of your mattress and creates a hygienic sleeping environment. Our bases are fitted with high-quality caps that prevent creaking and squeaking, so you can sleep through undisturbed.

Types of slatted bases at Weids Living and Sleeping

No two sleepers are the same, which is why we offer different types of bases. The difference mainly lies in flexibility and how far you can adjust the bed to suit your preferences.

Flat slatted bases (standard)

The flat slatted base is the most popular choice. These bases are not adjustable, but they provide exceptionally stable, solid support. Our flat bases feature flexible slats held in sturdy holders, allowing them to adapt effortlessly to the contours of your body. Ideal if you’re looking for quality at a competitive price.

Manually adjustable slatted bases

Would you like to sit upright in bed to read, or do you need extra support for your legs? A manually adjustable slatted base is a great solution. You can easily set the head and foot ends to different heights. This is not only comfortable, but can also help with breathing issues or tired, heavy legs.

Electric slatted bases for ultimate comfort

For those who want maximum convenience, we offer electric slatted bases. With the push of a button, you can adjust your bed position without having to get up. Our electric systems are powerful, quiet, and often include a knee-bend setting for an ergonomic sitting posture. The ultimate luxury for the bedroom.

How do you choose the right size? (90x200, 140x200 & more)

The size of your slatted base must match the internal dimensions of your bed frame exactly. For a single bed, 90x200 is the most common size. Do you have a double bed measuring 160x200 or 180x200? Then we always recommend using two separate slatted bases. This prevents you from rolling towards the middle of the bed and ensures both sleepers can make the most of their own base. We also stock non-standard lengths such as 210 or 220 cm.

Frequently asked questions about slatted bases

How many slats should a good slatted base have?

For good, long-lasting support, we recommend a slatted base with at least 28 slats. The more slats the base has, the more accurately pressure is distributed across the mattress. With a base that has fewer than 24 slats, the gaps are often too large, which can shorten the lifespan of your mattress (especially with pocket springs).

Is a slatted base suitable for every type of mattress?

Most mattresses, such as cold foam, memory foam and latex, pair perfectly with a slatted base. With a pocket sprung mattress, however, pay close attention to the spacing between the slats; it should be no more than 3 to 4 cm to prevent the springs from losing support.

When should I replace my slatted base?

A quality slatted base typically lasts around 10 to 15 years. You’ll know it’s time to replace it when the slats lose their spring (they no longer arch, but become flat or hollow), or when you notice the sleeping comfort in the middle of the bed has noticeably decreased.

What is the advantage of an electric slatted base?

An electric slatted base offers luxury and ergonomic convenience. It’s the ideal solution for people who like to read or watch TV in bed. It can also help with medical complaints such as back pain, breathing issues or fluid retention in the legs, because you can adjust your body position at the touch of a button.

Can I use two different slatted bases in one double bed?

Yes, absolutely — and it’s even recommended. By using two separate bases (for example 2x 90x200), each sleeper can enjoy their preferred support. It also prevents you from rolling towards the middle, which happens more easily with one large slatted base.
