Flannelette fitted sheet
A flannel fitted sheet is made from 100% cotton. However, it's woven differently to the 'normal' cotton you're used to. Flannel cotton is made from loosely spun yarn that is woven in a twill weave (this can be recognised by the diagonal lines).
Flannel is then roughened. This makes flannel cotton feel wonderfully soft and gives it its characteristic 'woolly' texture. A flannel fitted sheet is therefore particularly suitable for all seasons. In winter, flannel is wonderfully soft and warm. And due to the roughening, flannel cotton is thicker than normal cotton and therefore has an above-average moisture absorption. This is ideal for the warm summer months.

A flannel fitted sheet suitable for all seasons
A flannel fitted sheet is exceptionally suitable for all seasons and is a must-have for every bedroom. Flannel fitted sheets and flannel flat sheets are made from cotton and finished with a brushed surface. This makes a flannel fitted sheet wonderfully soft and warm. You will really notice this in winter, because you always step into a bed that has a pleasantly mild temperature thanks to the brushed cotton. Buying a flannel fitted sheet is easy at Weids Living and Sleeping.
Flannel is often associated with cold weather and winter. While this is absolutely true, flannel cotton is also very suitable for the summer season and during warm nights. Flannel fitted sheets and flannel flat sheets have a major advantage: because the surface is brushed, they absorb more moisture than “regular” cotton. Especially in the summer months or if you are a warm sleeper, you are assured of wonderfully dry nights.
Flannel is also a very easy fabric to use. Flannel stays soft, even after multiple washes. And flannel does not need ironing—flannel cotton hardly creases.
Flannel fitted sheet, a wonderfully warm sheet!
The traditional flannel technique raises the fluffy fibres so they hold onto air particles more effectively, which greatly increases insulation and the warming effect of the fabric—and you notice it immediately when you sleep. These raised fibres create a small space between the body and the flannel fitted sheet, allowing the air in between to be warmed by your body. This effect improves heat transfer and helps the body warm up faster and more effectively than standard cotton fitted sheets.
In winter, demand for flannel fitted sheets and duvet covers is especially high, due to the need for extra warmth during the colder months of the year. You can also use them in summer, because they are very lightweight fabrics so you do not need heavy blankets or duvets ; a good old flat sheet can be enough.

Flannel fitted sheet: what is it?
Flannel is a woven fabric that, as the name suggests, is brushed to create a soft, fluffy texture. Essentially, it is brushed cotton—created by a process applied to regular cotton—where the insulating effect makes it much warmer and ideal for fitted sheets and blankets. Our luxury flannel fitted sheets are softly brushed on both sides, making them wonderfully comfortable and suitable for both summer and winter use.
How is flannel made?
Flannel undergoes a special treatment that raises and expands the surface of the fabric to produce distinctive fibres. This is done using specially designed mechanical metal brushes that gently pull fibres from the surface of the fabric. This centuries-old technique creates a beautifully soft feel—similar to a fine wool cloth—but it is incredibly comfortable on the skin, without itching, which makes it ideal for people with allergies.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between cotton and flannel?
The difference between cotton and flannel, or flannel cotton, is the weaving method. Flannel cotton is made from loosely spun yarn woven in a twill weave (recognisable by the diagonal lines). As a finishing step, the cotton is brushed, creating the soft and woolly structure that is so characteristic of flannel. Both regular cotton and flannel cotton have excellent moisture-regulating properties.
Is flannel really that comfortable when it’s cold?
Flannel cotton is known for its extremely soft, thick and “woolly” structure. Flannel therefore feels very pleasant and comfortable. In the winter months, flannel cotton has the advantage that it conducts cold far less than “regular” cotton. A flannel cotton fitted sheet ensures that when you get into bed there are no big temperature differences, and the transition into the night is more gradual and far more relaxing.
Should I wash flannel before use?
We recommend always washing your flannel fitted sheet before first use. This does not need to be at a high temperature, and it does not even require soap or a special detergent. Washing causes the fibres to expand and set into place. As a result, the fabric becomes virtually lint-free and you significantly extend its lifespan. The flannel will continue to feel fuller. If you do not do this, the fabric can become “bare” quite quickly and lose its characteristic soft and “woolly” structure.
