Bolster Pillow for Perfect Support!
A bolster pillow is a cylindrical pillow that is often used as an extra support pillow in bed or on the sofa. We sell bolster pillows in various sizes and with different filling materials. Our bolster pillows (wool filling and RPET) are fitted with a short zip on the side, allowing you to easily refill the filling if you wish to top up or replace it over time.
Besides being used by side sleepers for extra support, bolster pillows are also commonly placed at the head of the bed, between the headboard or wall and the sleeping pillow.

Bolster Pillow or Long Support Pillow
A bolster pillow is often referred to as a long support pillow and is somewhat similar to a pregnancy pillow. It is a long cylindrical pillow that can be used in many different ways to increase comfort or provide additional support to improve your sleeping posture. But how is a bolster pillow typically used in bed?
Bolster pillow for neck and head support
For extra support of the neck and head, a bolster pillow can be a very helpful companion in bed. When the pillow roll is placed under the neck while lying down, it can improve your sleeping posture. The natural curve of the bolster fits particularly well for back sleepers, providing support to the cervical spine and helping to prevent neck pain.
Between the knees
Placing a bolster pillow between the knees can feel extremely comfortable. Side sleepers may experience less pressure on the hips, pelvis and lower back because the spine remains in a straight and neutral position. It can also feel pleasant to have gentle support between the legs, which helps prevent friction. If side sleepers rest only one leg on a bolster pillow, it may support the leg but does not always guarantee a perfectly neutral spinal alignment.
Extra support for the lower back
If you suffer from back pain, placing a bolster pillow under the lower back can create a more relaxed spinal posture. This can be especially comfortable for back sleepers after a physically demanding day.
For people with lower back discomfort, placing a bolster pillow under the knees can also help maintain a straight and relaxed spinal alignment.
Extra support for the upper body
A bolster pillow can also be used to provide extra support for the upper body. In this case, it can function as a body pillow. When held between the arms while sleeping on the side, it helps support the upper body and improves overall sleeping comfort.
In addition, a bolster pillow is sometimes used as a decorative or support roll between the main pillow and the headboard of the bed. Below you can read more about the different types of filling available.
Wool-filled bolster pillow
A bolster pillow filled with wool provides natural support and comfort. Wool is a natural fibre with excellent resilience. It offers outstanding ventilation and naturally regulates both temperature and moisture.

RPET bolster pillow
A bolster pillow filled with RPET is particularly special because the filling is made from ethically recovered ocean plastic and recycled plastic bottles. These materials are collected by organisations such as the Plastic Bank and recycled into resilient fibre clusters. The result is an environmentally friendly filling material that is also wonderfully soft.
Bolster pillows filled with Aerelle Blue RPET fibres are also easy to wash at temperatures up to 60°C and can safely be placed in the tumble dryer, which makes them extremely practical to maintain.
With a bolster pillow you choose extra comfort on the sofa, additional warmth and support for the back or neck, and comfortable support between the knees during sleep.
