A bedspread for your bed or sofa

A bedspread has two clear purposes. Firstly, it plays a prominent aesthetic role and is therefore available in an exceptional range of colours and designs, with or without a beautiful print. A bedspread can also be finished with a decorative border or a luxurious trim.

bedspreads

Because a bedspread is, above all, a decorative blanket or sofa cover, you will find it in both the bedroom and the living room. With a bedspread, you can instantly give your sofa and living space a fresh, luxurious look.

Besides enhancing your bedroom or living room, luxury bedspreads can also provide comfort and extra warmth. An additional layer can make all the difference during cold winter nights. On the sofa, it can create a wonderfully cosy evening too. Bedspreads are made in many finishes and materials, such as cotton, wool, silk or linen. They can also be made from fleece; however, fleece is entirely synthetic, which unfortunately can feel clammy and offers little ventilation. That is why we always recommend bedspreads made from natural materials.

Why choose a natural bedspread?

Unlike synthetic options, materials such as pure new wool, cotton and linen breathe exceptionally well. This helps keep your bed fresh while regulating moisture effectively. Whether you are looking for an airy cotton bedspread for summer or a generous wool bedspread for winter, natural fibres adapt to your body temperature.

Luxury bedspreads in green, black, grey, blue, white or pink

Every room can benefit from a refresh now and then — and a green, blue, white, black, pink or grey bedspread can do exactly that. A sofa cover not only helps revive your living room sofa or relaxation space, it also instantly brings a breath of fresh air into your interior. Bedspreads can even elevate the entire aesthetic of a room. And when it gets chilly during a cosy evening, you can enjoy the warmth and softness by snuggling underneath. A bedspread is a practical, beautiful and inviting addition used by almost every interior designer.

Use sofa bedspreads to enhance the shape and pattern of the sofa, create an effortlessly chic look, or hide minor imperfections. Lightweight luxury bedspreads with tassels can be neatly folded over the side.

luxury bedspread on a bed

The perfect size for a bed or sofa depends on the furniture you want to complement. Measure the surface of the sofa, bed or armchair you have chosen for your luxury bedspread. A casually draped bedspread looks best and will “lose” a few centimetres in the drape, so take this into account when choosing your favourite colour — green, grey, white, black or blue.

The perfect bedspread size for your bed

For an elegant drape, we recommend a bedspread that hangs at least 20 to 30 centimetres over the edge of the mattress on both sides. For a double bed of 180x200 cm, a 240x260 cm bedspread is often the ideal standard size.

Frequently asked questions about bedspreads

What is a bedspread?

A bedspread is a blanket or cover used to neatly make a bed. It covers the entire bed, often including the pillows, and drapes fully over the sides. In some cases it is also used for extra warmth, or as a cover for the sofa. A bedspread gives your bedroom a luxurious appearance.

What is the difference between a bedspread and a throw?

A bedspread is specifically designed to cover the entire bed (including pillows) for a tidy look and extra insulation. A throw is smaller and is usually draped decoratively over the foot of the bed or used as a blanket on the sofa.

What size bedspread do I need for my bed?

A bedspread for a bed is larger than the average throw for the sofa. Its generous size is meant to cover the bed completely to create that well-known luxurious look. A single bed is typically between 130 cm and 180 cm wide. A double bed is usually between 180 cm and 220 cm wide. For a “lits-jumeaux” size, the bedspread is often between 240 cm and 280 cm wide.

How do I care for my wool bedspread?

Wool is naturally self-cleaning thanks to the lanolin it contains. Regularly airing it outdoors is often sufficient. For washing, always check the specific care instructions on the label to prevent shrinkage.

Is a bedspread suitable for people with allergies?

Yes — provided you choose natural materials such as cotton (washable at high temperatures) or wool (dust-mite resistant). These materials ventilate better, creating an unfavourable environment for allergens.
