Fitted sheet
A good quality fitted sheet offers good protection for your mattress. On average, a person loses half to three-quarters of a litre of moisture every night. With a fitted sheet made of, for example, cotton or Tencel, i.e. a natural fibre, you prevent perspiration from seeping into your mattress. Fitted sheets therefore protect against the destructive effect of perspiration on the core of your mattress.
Using an underblanket or flannelette fitted sheet will make your mattress last much longer. All our fitted sheets are made of 100% cotton or Tencel. This is to maintain the excellent moisture-regulating properties of the natural fibres!

Fitted sheets and mattress covers of the best quality
We offer a wide range of fitted sheets. Every single one is high quality. Whatever fabric you choose, we can assure you that our fitted sheets do not pill, feel wonderfully soft, and fit snugly around the mattress. We only sell fitted sheets made from natural fibres, with cotton fitted sheets being the best known. Different weaving techniques give cotton mattress covers their specific properties, which is why percale feels soft and supple, while cotton sateen also has a beautiful sheen. Our range includes many different fabric types for mattress covers, each with its own specific qualities.
We have fitted sheets to suit every mattress. Whether you are looking for a mattress protector, an underblanket, a topper, a split topper for a single bed, double bed, or a toddler bed or crib, our assortment takes every type and size of mattress into account, so there is a suitable mattress cover available.
Which type of fitted sheet?
Not every mattress is the same, which is why choosing the right type of fitted sheet is essential for a neatly made bed and optimal sleep comfort. Whether you sleep on a standard mattress, a topper, or an adjustable bed with a split, the fit determines how well the sheet stays in place. In this overview, we compare the different options so you can find the perfect match for your bed setup.

Which fitted sheet size for which mattress?
There is a suitable mattress cover for every mattress. Often, the first choice is the material of the fitted sheet, partly to protect your mattress. But the fitted sheet size is also very important to make the right choice. When you choose a jersey fabric, this means the mattress cover is stretchy and therefore fits snugly around your mattress. Often this mattress cover has an approximate size. This is a fitted sheet that may be suitable for a length of 200 cm as well as 220 cm.
When you choose a fitted sheet made from regular cotton, percale cotton or cotton sateen, it is not stretchy. In that case, it is important to choose the exact mattress cover size for your mattress so the mattress cover fits properly.
Please note! With a fitted sheet with a standard corner depth, this is 35 cm.
Fitted sheets and your skin
Fitted sheets are available in many different materials and fabrics. Your fitted sheet is in contact with your skin throughout the night. The way different materials feel against your skin can be a wonderful experience or sensation. Everyone can develop a preference for a certain type of fabric, and this can even vary by season. Of course, some fabrics may feel less pleasant or may not suit certain skin types at all. Every material or fabric has its own unique properties, and if you have skin conditions such as actinic keratosis, acne, atopic eczema / constitutional eczema, basal cell carcinoma, contact allergy, perioral dermatitis or itching, it is wise to inform yourself properly.
Weids Living & Sleeping offers a wide range of fitted sheets in various materials and excellent quality.
Terry fitted sheets, a favourite
Terry cloth is a textile fabric with exceptional absorbency and a pleasant feel against the skin, making it highly suitable for fitted sheets. It is characterised by woven loop yarn/loops, which give a terry fitted sheet more volume, and with particularly high fabric quality these loops can be present on both sides of the mattress cover.
Double jersey or jersey
Jersey or double jersey is a very soft, sometimes elastic fabric (due to the elastane content), often knitted or twisted from a viscose or cotton blend. There is single jersey (elastic) and double jersey (more robust). Double jersey is knitted/braided left-to-right or right-to-left, creating a higher quality fabric and therefore making it less elastic. Order a jersey fitted sheet directly.
Flannel, a fitted sheet for winter
Flannel fitted sheets are made from cotton, among other materials. After the fabric is produced, it is brushed on one or both sides, giving it a fuller feel. Despite this fullness, which creates a warming effect, the fabric is relatively lightweight and ideal for fitted sheets in winter; it is also highly moisture-absorbing and crease-free, making this material particularly attractive for bedding production. Order a flannel fitted sheet at Weids living & Sleeping.
Cotton, all year round
Cotton fabric for fitted sheets is made from the well-known natural cotton fibre. It is obtained from the seed hairs of the cotton plant and is by far the most commonly used material for fitted sheets and bedding. Cotton fibres are very fine and soft, so a cotton fitted sheet feels comfortable and pleasant against the skin while you sleep.

Cotton sateen, soft on the skin
Sateen is the name for all shiny fabrics produced using a sateen weave. An important characteristic of the sateen weave is that the weave points do not touch each other. This type of weave creates the familiar glossy surface of sateen. Sateen can be woven from different fibres, and a cotton sateen fitted sheet is therefore made from cotton.
Egyptian cotton, best quality
Egyptian cotton fitted sheets: this type of cotton is a fibre with an exceptionally high-quality long staple. Staple length refers to the fibre length of a yarn. Egyptian cotton is mainly grown in the Nile Delta, where the warm, dry climate is ideal for cultivation.
Percale cotton
Percale cotton fitted sheet: the fabric is very fine-threaded and tightly woven, making percale highly suitable as a base for coloured printed mattress cover designs with a fine pattern. It is known as a strong, unfinished, printed fabric, ideal as a bedding material.
Percaline or percale cotton
Percale or percaline is a lightweight, tightly woven cotton fabric. It is very fine-threaded and tightly woven. The material is highly suitable especially for bedding, and a percaline fitted sheet provides an ideal fabric for this bed textile. It is also widely used for pillows, duvets and mattress protectors. Percaline is very flexible, strong and soft. It has a long lifespan and is easy to care for. With this weaving technique, a vertical thread is woven over every horizontal thread.
Tencel (Lyocell)
Tencel® is a 100% natural material and is fully biodegradable. The raw material for this fabric is wood and comes from sustainably managed plantations. It received the European PEFC quality mark and the international FSC certification. Tencel® has received numerous awards for its environmentally friendly production process.
After extensive research, it has become clear that 85% of people with sensitive skin prefer a Tencel fitted sheet over other materials. No chemicals are used in the production of Tencel fitted sheets, which is an important factor for sensitive skin. Tencel is a microfibre based on cellulose. The regenerated cellulose fibre is manufactured industrially using a direct solvent process. Lyocell fibres have high dry and wet strength, making them ideal for a fitted sheet. They are soft and absorb moisture extremely well. A Tencel fitted sheet feels smooth and cool, drapes nicely, hardly creases, and can be washed and steam-pressed without any problems.
Linen, for sweaty sleepers in summer
Linen fitted sheet: this is a fabric made from purely natural fibres – 100% cellulose – extracted from the stem of the flax plant. Linen fitted sheets are traditionally woven in the classic plain weave. This natural wonder is without a doubt the best when it comes to heat dissipation, is breathable, and can absorb a lot of moisture, making it ideal as a fitted sheet for a hot summer.
Silk fitted sheet, better hydration
Silk is a natural product and is processed into many different fabric qualities such as organza, satin or chiffon. The most common form of silk is obtained from the cocoon of the mulberry silkworm (also called the silk moth). The silk moth originates from China and produces the precious, snow-white silk thread. The process of extracting this silk thread is intensive and certainly not easy, which is one of the reasons a silk fitted sheet is expensive.

Frequently asked questions about a fitted sheet
What is a fitted sheet?
A fitted sheet is a fabric protection for your mattress so that, among other things, perspiration does not immediately penetrate into your mattress. Fitted sheets are available in many different materials. For the best results when using your fitted sheet, we always recommend natural materials. Cotton, percale cotton, Tencel and silk are all moisture-regulating, which means they absorb perspiration and other body moisture without any problem. This significantly extends the lifespan of your mattress.
How do you fold a fitted sheet?
Folding a fitted sheet may seem very difficult, yet it can still be neatly folded in just a few seconds. This looks tidy, prevents creases, and saves space. Lay the fitted sheet out flat. The two corners closest to you are in front of you. Put the two other corners into the first two corners. This creates a neat square, both on the top and on the underside. Now fold the right side inwards, then the left side. Fold these towards each other. Finally, fold the remaining rectangle up to the size that fits in your cupboard.
When do you use a fitted sheet?
We recommend always using a fitted sheet, without exception. Fitted sheets protect your mattress against perspiration and other body moisture. With a mattress cover, you significantly extend the lifespan of your mattress. In addition to a fitted sheet, we also recommend using a molton mattress protector. This is often made from brushed cotton and provides an extra protective layer for your mattress. Besides protection, fitted sheets also provide comfort thanks to their often soft and pleasant fabric.
Why wash a fitted sheet before use?
Before using a fitted sheet, we always recommend washing it first. This has several benefits. First, your mattress cover will be wonderfully fresh and hygienically clean, with a pleasant scent. Washing also helps remove any sizing/starch that may be present. An additional advantage is that washed bedding absorbs perspiration much better, helping you create a drier sleep climate.
Why is a fitted sheet necessary?
Fitted sheets have several functions. They provide comfort while sleeping because they regulate moisture, and they also form a protective layer around your mattress. Moisture affects the quality of a mattress. That is why it is best to protect your mattress with a fitted sheet around it.
