Pregnancy Pillows – Which One Is Best?

With so many options on the market, it can be difficult to know which pregnancy pillow is the best choice. A good starting point is to consider what you expect from the pillow. Do you find it difficult to stay on your side during pregnancy and do you roll onto your back during the night? Or are you looking for a pregnancy pillow that can also be used for yoga or relaxation? Perhaps you want a pillow that supports you during pregnancy and can still be used after the birth. It is also important to think about the type of material you prefer: a breathable cotton or wool-filled support pillow, or something softer and more cosy. Of course, price is another factor to keep in mind.

Weids Living and Sleeping believes that everyone deserves a good night’s rest, and that high-quality sleep accessories can make your sleeping experience more comfortable and supportive.

Pregnancy Pillow – Simply Wonderful

The pregnancy pillow may well be the ideal pillow, body pillow, support cushion, nursing pillow and body support all in one. But what makes it such a wonderful pillow?

  • Adjustable firmness: You can adapt the pillow to your preferred level of support. It can be made firmer or softer as your body changes throughout pregnancy.
  • 2-in-1 design: Use it as a body pillow to improve sleep and comfort during pregnancy, and as a nursing pillow to support both you and your baby during feeding.
  • Unique and flexible shape: Shape the pregnancy pillow to your desired firmness and position for maximum comfort. It can easily be formed into shapes such as C-, U-, I- or L-forms depending on what suits you best.
  • Washable covers: The soft cover is removable and washable, making it easy to keep your pillow fresh and clean. You can also change the look of your pillow with additional covers and Pebbles.

When Should You Use a Pregnancy Pillow?

You will especially benefit from a pregnancy pillow during the second and third trimester. As your pregnancy progresses, your belly grows and finding a comfortable sleeping position can become more difficult.

As your belly grows, it can be helpful to place a pregnancy pillow under your belly for extra support, especially when sleeping on your side. This not only relieves pressure on the lower back but also prevents your belly from pulling downward, which can cause discomfort during sleep. With this additional support your body stays better balanced, reducing strain on your muscles and spine and helping you maintain a more comfortable and relaxed sleeping position.

Sleeping on your stomach is no longer an option during pregnancy, and lying on your side can sometimes make you feel as though you might roll over. A pregnancy pillow can provide helpful support in every sleeping position.

Side Sleeping with a Pregnancy Side Pillow

In this position the pillow provides additional support and helps prevent the feeling of rolling over. When placed alongside the body, the pillow can support your arms or legs, helping you find a more comfortable and stable sleeping position.

Sleeping on Your Back During Pregnancy

When lying on your back, a pregnancy pillow can be placed beside the body to provide support and prevent you from turning onto your back during the night. This can create a secure and comfortable feeling, allowing you to enjoy a more relaxed night’s sleep.

Pregnancy Pillow – Well Filled!

Our nursing pillow is specially designed with maximum comfort and support for both mother (and father) and baby in mind. The Savanne pregnancy pillow is therefore extra generously filled. You can choose between recycled synthetic RPet beads or 100% natural Texel sheep’s wool.

Both the natural wool filling and the RPet filling provide the perfect balance between comfort and support, allowing both you and your baby to relax completely. Both filling materials are highly resilient, meaning the nursing pillow easily adapts to the body position of your child. They also ensure that the pillow quickly returns to its original shape after use.

Nursing Pillow Filled with 100% Natural Sheep’s Wool

The advantage of wool filling compared to Aerelle Blue RPet filling is that wool offers much better ventilation. Especially when the pregnancy pillow is used close to the body, this is a very pleasant benefit compared to the synthetic option. Wool is also more resilient than many other fibres, providing stronger support and counter-pressure. However, a wool-filled nursing pillow is heavier than one filled with Aerelle Blue RPet beads, and the wool filling itself cannot be washed.

Nursing Pillow Filled with Aerelle Blue RPet Beads

This special filling is partly made from ethically recovered ocean plastic and recycled plastic bottles collected by the Plastic Bank – Social Plastic initiative. These materials are recycled into resilient fibre beads, creating an environmentally friendly filling that is wonderfully soft. This ensures excellent sleeping comfort and peace of mind. The advantage of this filling is that the entire pregnancy pillow can be washed in the washing machine.

Nursing Pillow – For After Pregnancy

Even after your baby is born, a pregnancy pillow can still be extremely useful. It can provide excellent support during sleep and help create a more relaxed sleeping position. In particular, the hips and pelvis (which may experience instability after childbirth) can benefit from the support of a pregnancy pillow, allowing these areas to relax.

When your baby is resting beside you in bed, the pillow can also provide a comfortable support. It can be shaped into a U or V form around the neck, belly or legs, which can help during postpartum recovery, pelvic pain or instability.

After pregnancy, the pillow can also be used as a nursing pillow. It can help you find a comfortable position while breastfeeding or bottle-feeding your baby. Even when sitting on the sofa, the nursing pillow can provide extra support and allow for a fully relaxed sitting position.

Nursing Pillow Cover

After pregnancy, the multifunctional pillow is often used as a nursing pillow. Although it may feel slightly larger or sometimes less convenient at first, it provides excellent support once you get used to it. One of the advantages is that separate pillow covers are available for the nursing pillow, so if an accident happens the cover can simply be removed and washed.

Weids Living and Sleeping offers many types of pillows that can improve comfort in different positions, such as a bolster pillow, reading pillows, wedge pillows, triangular pillows or even a heat pillow. We believe that wherever you are, every position can be made more comfortable with the right pillow.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pregnancy and Nursing Pillows

Choosing the right pillow can make a world of difference to sleep quality and comfort during (and after) pregnancy. Below you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about pregnancy and nursing pillows.

What is the difference between a pregnancy pillow and a regular pillow?

A pregnancy pillow is specifically designed to follow the contours of the changing body. It provides support for the belly, back and knees at the same time, helping keep the spine in a neutral position.

When should I start using a pregnancy pillow?

There is no strict rule, but most women start using one around the 20th week of pregnancy. This is often when the belly becomes heavier and sleeping on your back becomes less comfortable and is generally discouraged.

How do you use a pregnancy pillow?

Sleeping on your stomach is no longer possible and lying on your side can sometimes make you feel as if you might roll over. A pregnancy pillow provides support in every sleeping position. When lying on your side, the pillow helps prevent the feeling of tipping over while allowing you to rest an arm or leg on it for additional comfort. When lying on your back, the pillow placed beside your body provides support and prevents rolling onto that side, creating a secure and comfortable feeling during sleep.

  • U-shape: Provides support on both sides. Ideal if you move a lot during sleep, because you do not need to reposition the pillow.
  • C-shape: Takes up less space and is perfect for supporting the back, belly or head.
  • J-shape or wedge pillow: Compact and designed for targeted support for the belly or between the knees.

What is a nursing pillow?

After pregnancy, the pillow can be used for feeding your baby. It provides relaxing and comfortable support for both parent and child.

Can I use my pregnancy pillow as a nursing pillow?

Yes, many longer pillows are flexible enough to wrap around your waist. However, specific nursing pillows are often slightly firmer and more compact, making them easier to handle while feeding your baby on a chair or sofa.

Why do I need a nursing pillow?

A nursing pillow relieves pressure on your arms, neck and shoulders while feeding (both breastfeeding and bottle feeding). It lifts the baby to the correct height, helping prevent poor posture and back pain.

How do I keep my pregnancy pillow clean?

Hygiene is essential, especially when feeding your baby. Pay attention to the following points:

  • Does the pillow have a removable cover?
  • Is the cover washable at a minimum of 40°C or 60°C?
