Tencel Duvet

Tencel: Many know the name, but few know the secret.

What is Tencel? Is a Tencel duvet actually good for sleep? And is Tencel truly as amazing as everyone says? We get these questions all the time. And to be honest, to the last two questions, we can give a resounding YES! Ready to dive into the world of Tencel?

What is a Tencel duvet?

Tencel is a relatively new innovation. We are all familiar with wool, down, and cotton you’ve likely slept under them at some point. Most people have an association with those materials, whether positive or negative. However, Tencel is a type of textile that hasn't been around for very long, so it doesn't always capture the imagination yet. That’s a shame, because we’re bold enough to say that Tencel is the most beautiful, comfortable, and softest duvet material available today.

Tencel fiber

Tencel versus Lyocell

To explain exactly what Tencel is, we need to take a step back to the fiber known as Lyocell. Lyocell is a man-made fiber, but it is derived from a natural source: the eucalyptus tree. These fibers come from specially managed, sustainable forests to keep the ecological footprint as small as possible. During the production process, wood chips are processed until they dissolve into a liquid. Almost all the chemicals used in this process are recycled, and the wastewater is so thoroughly filtered that it isn't harmful to nature. So, we can say with total enthusiasm that Lyocell is an eco-friendly fiber!

But how do we get to Tencel? Lyocell is the generic name of the product, originally developed by the Lenzing company in Austria. Tencel is simply the brand name they gave the fabric for the market. So, Lyocell is Tencel, and Tencel is Lyocell.

Tencel duvet Strong, sustainable, and super soft!

And here is why we are so incredibly excited about it. Ask our colleague Jan, and he won’t stop talking about it for an hour. The reason? It’s simple. Tencel is super strong, durable, silky soft, and absorbs moisture (perspiration) perfectly. With a Tencel duvet, you won't easily get too cold or too warm. Just keep in mind that you need to choose the right duvet for the right season even a Tencel summer duvet won't keep you warm in a freezing bedroom in the middle of winter.

We receive many questions from women experiencing menopausal symptoms. This group often deals with temperature fluctuations and night sweats. Tencel is the perfect solution for these issues (which affect many other sleepers as well). Tencel absorbs 150%!! more moisture than cotton. This high moisture absorption capacity significantly reduces the chance of clammy nights.

How does Tencel feel?

Finally, perhaps the most important part: Tencel is soft! It truly feels as soft as silk. When you run your hands over a Tencel duvet or duvet cover, you'll likely be surprised by how wonderful the fabric feels against the skin. Your senses will be forever grateful once you sleep under Tencel. While Tencel is well-known as a fabric for clothing, it is fantastic for duvets, both as a filling and for the casing (the "ticking" or cover of the duvet).
