The memories of our holiday are still fresh in our minds.
The beautiful weather (or lack thereof). The friends that were made. We can almost still taste that one particular white wine. But then, the order of the day returns. The holiday is over. The caravan goes back into storage, the chalet has had its deep clean, and the tent has been brushed off, packed up, and tucked away in the attic.
Alongside the return of work and school, there is a mountain of laundry waiting. Once that’s cleared, the duvets and pillows start looking at you pleadingly, waiting for their turn to be refreshed. Duvets, pillows, and bedding all have their own specific washing requirements. If you want to know the best way to refresh or clean your duvet, read our blog on washing duvets.
Once everything is freshly washed, it’s time to store it all away. This isn't always as easy as it sounds. To help you on your way, we’ve put together a few handy tips:
How do you store a duvet?
Duvets (and pillows too) are perfect for vacuum packing. By vacuum-sealing and storing your duvet, you save an incredible amount of space—it can reduce the volume by up to half. This is also a great way to store the parts of a 4-season duvet that you aren’t currently using. You can find special storage bags for this online or at most major department stores. When you eventually take it out of the vacuum bag, hang or lay the duvet out for a day. This gives it the time and space to regain its full loft and thickness.
How do I keep my duvets organized?
You and your partner use a duvet, and the children do too. To easily tell them apart and find them in the cupboard later, you can attach a luggage label with a name to the storage bag. This way, you can quickly grab exactly what you’re looking for. You can also write the dimensions on the label so you know you’ve rediscovered the right size immediately.
What should I store my duvet in?
Avoid using completely airtight plastic storage bags for long-term storage. If you use a plastic bag, the risk of mold is much higher. We always recommend storing your duvets and bedding in a dry place, as mold thrives in damp environments. You can find our duvet storage bags here; they are made from a breathable fabric to ensure your duvet stays well-ventilated and fresh.
Never lose a pillowcase again!
You can easily store the matching bedding as a set while keeping it dust-free. Set one pillowcase aside. Fold the fitted sheet, the duvet cover, any flat sheets, and the other pillowcase (for a double set) together. Then, slide this entire stack into the pillowcase you set aside. This way, you’ll never be searching for the right duvet cover to match the right fitted sheet, and the chance of losing a pillowcase is zero.

How do I keep my bedding smelling fresh?
It might seem old-fashioned something only Grandma used to do but it really works. To keep your bedding smelling fresh, place lavender sachets in the cupboard or storage box. This preserves that fresh scent. Lavender also acts as a natural moth repellent. Other scents like laurel, cedarwood, camphor, or elderflower also keep moths at bay. You can even make your own scent sachets. Amber blocks are also very popular nowadays; they release a wonderful fragrance, ensuring your bedding smells lovely for as long as it’s stored away.
With these tips, you’ll have your duvets, pillows, and bedding ready to go for your next holiday in no time. Bon voyage!
