Bamboo is becoming increasingly well-known across its various applications. Sustainable household items are more frequently made from bamboo. And as a filling for your duvet or pillow, bamboo turns out to be exceptional. Its popularity is surging, and when you look at its properties especially the benefits of bamboo we completely understand why.
What is a bamboo duvet?
Bamboo is a plant species found primarily in tropical climates. It is famous for its rapid growth; the fastest-growing species can reach growth rates of nearly a meter per day. Because bamboo has short fibers, it cannot naturally be turned into yarn or duvet filling. Therefore, non-natural substances are used during the production process to transform it into viscose.
Viscose versus Lyocell
Bamboo is also available based on the Lyocell production process. Both processes yield a very soft fabric that is exceptionally pleasant and comfortable. However, when it comes to eco-friendliness, the Lyocell process has the edge because it is a closed-loop system. This means fewer non-natural substances are released into the environment.
Lyocell, also known by the material name Tencel (often made from wood pulp but applicable to bamboo), is consequently (much) more expensive. Viscose, on the other hand, is less environmentally friendly but is already a much better alternative than synthetic duvets or those made of cotton. Both of those have a significantly larger environmental footprint.
Bamboo: Comfortable and Versatile
Bamboo is now renowned for its high level of comfort and its exceptional moisture-absorbing capacity. If you tend to sweat, bamboo ensures you won't suffer from clammy nights or wake up feeling sweaty.
Sleeping ON Bamboo
Our latest addition is the bamboo underblanket This underblanket offers the same high quality as the duvet. A bamboo underblanket provides immense comfort while also protecting your mattress from dirt or stains. Plus, bamboo is washable! You can easily refresh a bamboo duvet and underblanket in the washing machine. Tip! For larger sizes, ensure you use a large-capacity washing machine. If the drum is too full, the temperature can easily rise much higher than intended, with all the negative consequences that entail.
Which bamboo duvet should I choose?
Because we want to keep bamboo duvets accessible for every budget, we currently only carry bamboo viscose in our range. And when you ask, 'Which bamboo duvet should I choose?', our answer is simple. We are huge fans of our Savanne bamboo 4-season duvet. It features a wonderfully soft and supple casing, a fine bamboo filling, and is suitable for both summer and winter. Use the summer section during the hottest months, the slightly thicker duvet for spring and autumn, and for those truly cold winter nights, simply zip them together. Ultimate freedom of choice and always a warm or cool night's sleep.
Is a bamboo pillow good?
A bamboo pillow has many wonderful properties. The first is the casing; it is double-layered and filled with bamboo, allowing your skin and hair to experience all the benefits bamboo has to offer. If you sweat at night, the pillow's casing absorbs it immediately. The core of the pillow is typically filled with kapok or a synthetic filling. Since bamboo itself lacks natural resilience, it provides little to no support on its own and support is exactly what is so important in a good pillow.
