My colleague just won't stop talking about it.
Specifically, about how wonderfully she sleeps on her underblanket. At first, I didn't quite understand why. Sure, an underblanket is nice, but isn't it just like a topper? Well, I certainly got schooled on that one! There are indeed significant differences. But what makes a good underblanket? And what is the actual difference between an underblanket and a mattress topper?
The difference between an underblanket and a mattress topper
The main difference between an underblanket and a topper is that a topper is thicker. A topper is essentially a thin mattress that you place on top of your existing mattress to adjust the feel. Generally, when an underblanket weighs more than 1000 grams, it is categorized as a topper. Another key distinction is that an underblanket is secured to the mattress with elastic corner straps. This ensures the underblanket stays perfectly in place and doesn't shift during the night.

Texels Classic Wool Underblanket
One of the most popular underblankets in our collection is the Texels Classic Wool Underblanket. This model is filled with pure Texel virgin wool and is approximately 3 to 4 cm thick. Wool is world-renowned for its exceptional temperature-regulating properties. For cold sleepers, it helps retain body heat perfectly. Conversely, people who overheat or sweat easily will find that wool ventilates extremely well, leading to a much more comfortable sleep. A wool underblanket is also a perfect choice for those suffering from muscle or joint pain.
An added bonus of this underblanket is that it is reversible: one side features soft wool, while the other is made of 100% soft percale cotton. This allows you to choose between sleeping directly on the wool or the smooth cotton.
Ps. Sleeping on the wool side feels like sleeping on a cloud just a little tip from us...

Hefel Tencel Underblanket
The most important feature of the Tencel underblanket is its incredible moisture absorption. This underblanket, which is about 2 cm thick, is as soft as silk yet as durable as polyester. Because moisture is absorbed so efficiently, bacteria don't stand a chance, making this underblanket naturally hypoallergenic. The major advantage of Tencel over wool is that it is fully machine washable. Depending on the size of your washing machine, you can easily wash it yourself at home. Tencel is a relatively modern, highly sustainable material, and we highly recommend it!

Savanne Bamboo Underblanket
The biggest advantage of a Bamboo underblanket is that, like Tencel, it is very easy to wash. This makes it an ideal choice for children's beds! This 2 to 3 cm thick underblanket also offers excellent moisture-regulating properties. For this reason, we recommend it to people who tend to get too warm at night. Bamboo is a beautiful natural product, sustainably grown and finished with a wonderfully soft percale cotton casing.
Summary
In addition to providing exceptional comfort, an underblanket offers protection for your mattress. While mattress protection might not be the primary reason to buy one, it’s certainly a welcome benefit. Furthermore, it provides extra warmth in the winter and fine ventilation in the summer, offering a subtle cooling effect. Both Bamboo and Tencel are easily washable, with Tencel standing out as a particularly natural and sustainable material choice.
Finally, we want to give a special mention to the wool underblanket. Wool is incredibly breathable (ensuring you feel dry all night long). Thanks to its thermal properties, you stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Combined with that "sleeping on clouds" feeling, we are incredibly enthusiastic about the Texels Classic Wool Underblanket, alongside all our other fantastic options.
