Slaapmaatje, the solution!

Introducing our Slaapmaatje. It's a well-known fact that many people sleep on their side. They tend to roll forward because the upper arm cannot float in the air and seeks support on the mattress. This results in a position somewhere between side sleeping and stomach sleeping, the 3/4 position. In this posture, the upper shoulder drops forward, creating a slight strain in the area between the shoulder blades and the neck. This is precisely the area that is already burdened by incorrect working postures (working with shoulders forward). Consequently, the connective tissue cannot recover sufficiently during the night.

This problem can be easily solved by using a Slaapmaatje. The Slaapmaatje is the Dutch version of the Indonesian Goeling. The tension in the shoulders, between the shoulder blades, and in the neck decreases, allowing the affected tissues to recover maximally. The Slaapmaatje is a comfortably feeling, elongated pillow, filled with wonderfully soft and resilient sleep balls. The Slaapmaatje can be placed between the knees (and lower legs) as well as between the arms.

A Slaapmaatje not only prevents the torso from tilting forward but also prevents the knees from sliding apart. Without a Slaapmaatje, it's difficult to keep the knees together for extended periods, leading to irritation between the knees. The result is that one leg is placed over the other, creating tension in the lower intervertebral discs. Therefore, a Slaapmaatje can also be effective for lower back pain. Especially when people wake up with pain and stiffness in their back, it indicates an incorrect sleeping posture.

Slaapmaatje, the pillow, the filling, and maintenance

The dimensions of the Slaapmaatje are 110 x 15 x 15 cm. Over 1 meter long and 15 cm in diameter. Research among our customers has shown that these are the perfect dimensions for this unique pillow. The Slaapmaatje has a fixed 100% white cotton cover and is filled with either synthetic filling (soft RPET sleep balls) or wonderfully soft wool balls.

• Synthetic sleep balls - This filling is made from ethically recovered plastic from PET bottles, collected by the Plastic Bank and recycled into resilient fiber balls. Filling weight is approximately 700 grams.
• Texel new wool balls - The advantage of the wool filling over the synthetic filling is that the wool ventilates much better. Especially when you use the pillow close to your body, this is a nice advantage compared to the synthetic variant. Filling weight is approximately 1200 grams.

The Slaapmaatje features a short zipper on the side, allowing you to easily add filling if you need to top up or replace it over time. The Slaapmaatje with synthetic filling can be easily washed up to 60°C and can also be tumble dried, which is very convenient. The Slaapmaatje with wool filling must be emptied first. Then, the fixed cover can be washed. The wool filling cannot be washed, of course.

Cotton Pillowcase

Using a cotton pillowcase is strongly recommended. Primarily for hygienic reasons, but using a (cotton) pillowcase also significantly extends the lifespan of the Slaapmaatje pillow.
