The Tencel Exclusive ticking, cover

This fine down pillow features a double-layer 100% Tencel cover, which is also filled with 100% Tencel. An important property of Tencel is that you don't notice perspiration due to the high moisture absorption of the Tencel fiber. The Tencel woven double ticking can absorb up to 150% more moisture than a cotton ticking! Another important property of the Tencel pillow is that the Tencel fabric is breathable. This prevents stuffy heat from building up. The Tencel pillow therefore never gets warmer than 28°C. This creates a wonderful sleeping climate.

Sleeping on a Tencel pillow is highly recommended for people with allergies to house dust mites or asthma. Moisture is absorbed so well into the fiber that bacteria do not thrive in Tencel, which is why Tencel is hypoallergenic (= anti-allergic). People with sensitive skin also find Tencel a relief, as it is light, soft, and smooth and does not irritate the skin.

Down feather filling

The Tencel Exclusive down pillow is generously and firmly filled with duck feathers, making the pillow quite high. However, the pillow is very shapeable. This makes it more suitable for back and side sleepers. The inner pillow has a double cotton ticking which prevents feathers from poking through the fabric.

Washing and care

You can easily wash the Tencel Exclusive pillow (cover) yourself at home. The down pillow is in a beautiful Tencel cover, which you can easily remove. The Tencel pillowcase can be machine washed at up to 40 °C and then air-dried. The down inner pillow can also be washed if necessary, but it is important to dry the down pillow in the dryer for more than three hours. By gently fluffing the pillow daily and opening the bedroom window, the down can air out well and retain its resilience and shape for longer.

It has received the European quality mark PEFC and the international mark FSC. Tencel has received numerous awards for its environmentally friendly production process.

In addition, this pillow has the NOMITE, Downafresh® Greenline, and Oeko-Tex labels. The NOMITE label indicates that you are dealing with a product that is suitable for people with a house dust mite allergy. The Oeko-Tex label guarantees that this duck down pillow is free from harmful substances that pose a risk to human health.

The Downafresh® Greenline label is from the European Down & Feather Association (EDFA). This is a collaboration of the main down and feather processing companies in Europe. The label means that the down pillow meets the hygienic requirements of EN 12935, no aggressive agents are used in production, the down pillow is biodegradable after its useful life, the manufacturer adheres to the code of conduct regarding animal welfare, the origin of the filling material is documented, and the filling material is not obtained from 'live plucking'.

Tencel is very functional. Great moisture permeability is one of the basic properties of this material. After intensive research, it has become clear that 85% of people with sensitive skin prefer Tencel over other materials. Bacteria do not stand a chance in Tencel material, and house dust mites disappear within 6 weeks. No chemicals are used in Tencel material, an important factor for sensitive skin. Tencel can first absorb moisture and then distribute it over the surface, so your sleeping environment is always pleasantly dry.

Tencel, the secret?

Tencel is the first cellulose fiber that derives its enormous strength from nanotechnology. As a result of the concentrated and regular structure of the non-fibers, new functional properties can be added to Tencel. These guarantee excellent moisture absorption, combined with optimal moisture management. During sleep, our body releases at least 0.4 liters of perspiration, but Tencel's exceptionally good moisture absorption guarantees that the pillow remains pleasantly dry, thus promoting restful sleep. To clarify, Tencel absorbs more than 50% more moisture than cotton. This is in contrast to polyester, which absorbs no moisture at all.

Lyocell (Tencel) is an artificial fiber of natural origin. The raw material for this fiber is wood pulp, like for viscose rayon, and it is also spun using the wet spinning process. The key difference lies in the dissolution of the wood fibers. For viscose rayon, this is not an environmentally friendly process. Sodium hydroxide, carbon disulfide, and sulfuric acid are used, and harmful by-products are generated. Carbon disulfide is harmful to health and highly flammable.

These disadvantages have been overcome with lyocell by using a new solvent (N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide) and by modifying the process to create a closed loop in which the solvent is recovered. The properties of the fiber generally correspond to those of viscose, but the strength in wet condition is better and the fiber wrinkles less. Lyocell is marketed under the brand name Tencel by the Austrian company Lenzing.
