Sheep wool is one of the most sustainable and versatile materials for fillings. Our pure virgin wool naturally has a very fine crimp and a high lanolin (= wool fat) content. The quality of the crimp guarantees excellent insulation and ventilation. Because our wool ventilates excellently and regulates temperature itself, a wonderfully cool and dry climate is created.

How to recognize good quality sheep wool?

Good quality wool, i.e., with a high lanolin content, can be recognized by its smell. Sheep wool should smell like... well, sheep! It also feels slightly greasy. That is also a good indication.

Origin of our wool - Wol Fabryk Fryslân

Wol Fabryk Fryslân is a unique and local initiative that focuses entirely on the sustainable and circular processing of Frisian sheep wool. In close cooperation with local sheep farmers, the wool is collected directly from the source. Where sheep wool was often seen as a waste product and had little value, at Wol Fabryk Fryslân it gets a second life in the form of high-quality filling material for various products.

After delivery, the wool is carefully sorted by quality and usability. Suitable wool proceeds to the in-house wool washing facility, where it is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at no less than 172 degrees using a specialized and environmentally friendly washing process. This makes our wool 100% hygienically clean and free of bacteria. Because wool is a 100% natural product, the wool filling may still contain visible imperfections after the washing process. This does not detract from the quality and hygiene of the wool.

Wool that is not suitable for processing into, among other things, pillows or duvets also gets a sustainable destination. This wool is processed into woolhydro granules, an innovative product that can be used in horticulture and agriculture. Thanks to the natural properties of wool, retaining moisture and slowly releasing nutrients, it is an ideal circular fertilizer and soil improver. Wool thus forms a local, sustainable, and completely natural alternative to artificial fertilizer.

In addition to the production of new wool products, the recycling of existing wool duvets and pillows also plays an important role. In collaboration with processors and technological partners, work is being done on a closed loop, in which wool can be reused time and again. This way, nothing is lost and the value of this beautiful natural product is preserved for the region.
