With our pure sheep wool hydro granules, you choose a sustainable and natural alternative to traditional clay or plastic hydro granules. Our granules are made from 100% sheep wool and are fully biodegradable. This makes them not only good for your plants but also for the environment.
Origin of our wool granules
The wool supplied by local sheep farmers to theWol Fabryk Fryslânis carefully sorted for usability as filling for duvets, pillows, and related products. Sheep are shorn annually, producing an average of over 3 kilograms of wool. Not all of this wool is usable, and much of it is therefore discarded as waste, also known as residual wool. This wool is extremely suitable for use as fertilizer in agriculture, for vegetable gardens, and as plant nutrition for indoor plants. In this way, wool has been transformed from a waste product into a 100% natural and circular soil improver.
Optimal water management
Our wool granules have a unique property: they absorb water and release it slowly back into the soil. This creates optimal water management, so your plants are never too dry or too wet. This is ideal for houseplants as well as plants in pots, borders, and vegetable gardens. At the same time, the wool granules ensure a loose soil structure, allowing roots to grow better and reducing the risk of root rot.
Natural nutrients
A major advantage of wool granules for plants is that they not only retain moisture but also slowly release natural nutrients. Sheep wool is naturally rich in valuable nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, and sulfur. This means your plants will grow stronger and build better resistance without the need for additional artificial fertilizer. The fertilizers are slowly released from the wool granules. This provides the plant with6 to 8 months of benefitfrom the nutrients contained in the wool mulch.
Additionally, wool granules provide insulation. In winter, they keep the soil warmer, and in summer, they provide cooling. This creates a stable and healthy climate for your plants all year round.
What makes these hydro granules extra special is their eco-friendly nature. While traditional hydro granules are often made from clay or artificial materials, here you choose a completely natural and circular solution. Using wool mulch
Wool mulch and wool granules are used to strengthen and protect plants, in addition to improving soil quality, for as long as 6 to 8 months. 10 grams of wool flakes are sufficient for an average pot of 25 cm. There are 3 ways to use wool mulch, as also shown in the images:
Under the pot or plant: By applying wool flakes under a pot or plant, the plant's roots receive a natural nutrient source that is gradually released. This promotes healthy root growth and helps prevent root rot. For outdoor plants/vegetable gardens, you can place the wool mulch underground and plant the seed or seedling above it. For indoor plants, you can place the wool mulch under the plant in the pot.
Mixed into the soil: By mixing wool mulch into the soil beforehand, you enrich the soil naturally. It provides a nutritious base and also helps suppress weed growth. This way, you ensure your plants have all the space they need to develop. By watering the soil well after adding the wool flakes, the action of the wool flakes is accelerated, and they start working immediately.
As a protective top layer: Surrounding the plant with wool granules has multiple benefits. With every rain shower or watering, the nutrients slowly seep into the soil. Additionally, it forms a natural barrier against slugs, preventing them from reaching the plant.
With these three applications, wool mulch demonstrates its versatility. It nourishes the soil, protects plants, and contributes to healthy, strong growth. This makes its use a simple, natural solution with a significant impact.
